Lemosho Route - Kilimanjaro, Tanzania

Trip Overview

Lemosho Glades Route heads up through an unspoilt, remote, seldom-used trail up to the Shira Plateau. The route is one of the few where an armed ranger accompanies groups, as the forests around the Lemosho Glades have resident wild animals. While the glades used to be teeming ith game, sadly, there is a lot less than there were ten years ago. You will note that on the Lemosho route, you start at a higher altitude than what you end on.

Itinerary

DAY 1: Arrive and transfer to hotel

DAY 2 Lemosho Glades (2200m) to Mkubwa Camp (2750m)

Hiking time: 3-4 hours
Hiking Distance – 7km’s
Habitat – Forest to Moorland

DAY 3 Mkubwa Camp (2750m) to Shira Camp 1(3500m)

Hiking Time : 5 hours Trekking
Distance: 4km’s
Habitat: Moorland shrub

DAY 4: Shira (3840m)-Lava Tower (4630m)-Barranco camp (3950m)

Hiking time: 6-8 hours
Distance: About 15 km's
Habitat: Semi alpine desert

DAY 5 Barranco Camp (3860m) to Barafu Camp (4550m)

Distance: 7 km
Hiking Time: 4 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert

DAY 6 SUMMIT ATTEMPT

Barafu camp (4550m)-Uhuru Peak (5895m)-Mweka (3100m)
Hiking time: 6-8 hours to reach Uhuru Peak 6-8 hours to descend to Mweka D
istance: About 7 km's ascent - 23 km's descent
Habitat: Stone scree and ice-capped summit

DAY 7 Mweka camp (3100m)- Mweka Gate (1980m)

Hiking time: 2-4 hours
Distance: About 15 km's
Habitat: Forest

Machame Route

The Shira route, approaches Kilimanjaro’s summit from the west and crosses the caldera of Shira Volcano before heading beneath the southern ice fields of Kibo. The route is seldom used by other trekkers. more

Umbwe Route

7 Nights / 8 Dayss

This is one of the shortest but steepest routes to the Southern Glaciers, affording one views of the forests, valleys and glaciers, and recommended for very fit climbers as you altitude is gained quickly. more
